Remember the ice bucket challenge? This year it’s snowmen. Wrap someone in toilet roll, beat the time set by the children in Guatemala, then nominate three friends.
The Radio Christmas Snowman Challenge is for everyone: families, friends, offices, churches, sports clubs, choirs, schools. All you need is two teams, a few toilet rolls and one very patient volunteer.
The rules
- Two teams of two/three.
- One brave volunteer, standing very still. Dad, the boss, the vicar, the team captain: your choice.
- Wrap them in toilet roll from head to toe.
- Add a hat and a scarf.
- The clock stops when a small carrot goes in their mouth.
Fast, silly and guaranteed to have everyone in fits.
The time to beat
The children at our projects in Guatemala have already had a go, and they’ve set the time to beat. Watch their videos, then see if you can do better.
Film it, share it, nominate
1. Film your attempt. Make sure the clock is in shot.
2. Post it on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok with #RCSnowmanChallenge and tag Radio Christmas.
3. Donate to the appeal.
4. Nominate three friends, families or teams to take up the challenge.
We’ll keep a leaderboard on our social media and read out the fastest times and the funniest snowmen live on air in December.
Why a snowman?
Look at him. He’s only got a hat and a scarf. It’s not much of an outfit, is it?
That’s a bit like many children in Guatemala. Without the right school kit, school is hard, and for some children, it means not going at all. Here, most of us take a full school kit for granted.
So this year, the money raised through the Snowman Challenge will buy school kits for children in Guatemala. Next year, we’ll show you the children wearing them.
Schools: you’re in too
Schools, this one is made for you. Do it on a non-uniform day or a Christmas jumper day: wrap a teacher and bring your school’s donation to your Schools’ Hour show to present live on air. Schools’ Hour runs every weekday from 1 to 17 December, 10–11am and 11am–12pm, and there are still slots available.
For school photos and videos, please show the teacher only, not pupils.
Ready, steady, wrap!
Every penny you give goes straight to the projects in Central America that help over 800 children every week. Who will you nominate?
